Pakistan Will Not Interfere in Afghanistan's Internal Affairs: Tahir Hussain Andrabi
Despite ongoing border tensions, Pakistan maintains active diplomatic communication with Afghanistan, confirmed Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi. Speaking at a weekly press briefing in Islamabad on Thursday (January 8), Andrabi emphasized that Pakistan adheres to a policy of non-interference regarding Afghanistan's domestic governance.
He noted that while bilateral relations are strained due to cross-border terrorism, Islamabad views this strictly as a security concern rather than a political dispute. Pakistan expects the Kabul government to take "verifiable and concrete steps" to ensure that Afghan soil is not used for attacks against Pakistani territory.
Andrabi further stated that the normalization of relations depends largely on Kabul's commitment to neutralizing terrorist safe havens. Highlighting the 2020 Doha Agreement, he reminded the Afghan Taliban of their pledge to eliminate terrorism from their borders. He added that apart from the issue of militancy, there are no significant bilateral conflicts between the two neighboring nations. To resolve the ongoing trade disruptions, a 13-member joint committee of business leaders was formed on January 5 to negotiate the reopening of key border crossings, including Torkham, which have remained mostly shut since the military clashes last October.
