FIFA President Gianni Infantino has expressed his profound sorrow over the passing of former Bangladesh Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

In a condolence message sent to Tabith Awal, President of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), the FIFA chief extended his heartfelt sympathies to her family and the people of Bangladesh. The former Prime Minister breathed her last on December 30 at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka at the age of 80.

Following her demise, millions gathered at Manik Mia Avenue on December 31 for her funeral prayers (Namaz-e-Janaza), marked by deep mourning across the nation. She was later laid to rest with full state honors beside the grave of her husband, the late President Ziaur Rahman, at Zia Udyan. Over her illustrious 44-year political career, Begum Khaleda Zia made history as the country's first female Prime Minister and led the nation through three separate terms. Her passing marks the end of a significant era in Bangladeshi politics.
