U.S. President Donald Trump has signed a memorandum directing the withdrawal of the United States from 66 international organizations, including entities under the United Nations. The White House stated that this decision was made because involvement in these organizations is no longer effective in protecting the country's national interests.

On Wednesday, the White House announced that under this memorandum, the U.S. will pull out of 31 UN-affiliated agencies and 35 other international institutions outside of the UN. However, the specific names of the organizations included in this list have not yet been disclosed.

According to a statement shared by the White House on X (formerly Twitter), and reported by AFP, continued participation in these institutions is no longer aligned with the strategic, political, or economic interests of the United States. Consequently, the administration is conducting a fresh review of all foreign engagements.

The White House maintained that this step was taken to ensure the best use of U.S. funding and resources. The administration claims that many of these organizations have failed to meet their stated objectives and, in some cases, have taken positions contrary to American interests.

Since beginning his second term, President Trump has been reassessing the United States' relationships with global bodies. This initiative to withdraw from a series of international organizations has sparked new debates and criticism regarding the future role and position of the U.S. on the global stage.
