Meanwhile, prominent U.S. economist Jeffrey D. Sachs expressed concern that after Venezuela, Iran could be the next target of the United States. In an interview with India Today Global, he said, “President Trump is excessively focused on Tehran, which could easily push the world toward a major conflict. The U.S. has effectively become a ‘rogue state,’ where military power operates beyond constitutional oversight.”

Sachs also noted that Trump had asked Latin American leaders nearly eight years ago why the U.S. was not attacking Venezuela directly, suggesting that such military planning has been ongoing for a long time. He warned, “A military operation against Iran would be far more dangerous than Venezuela. The country possesses advanced hypersonic missiles and is located in a geopolitical region where major powers have direct interests.”

Earlier this year, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago. According to Sachs, the main message of the meeting was that “Iran is the next target.”

Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Wednesday instructed the country’s security forces to differentiate between peaceful protesters and armed ‘rioters’ while responding to economic demonstrations. AFP reported from Paris that this directive indicates the government is concerned the situation may spiral out of control.
