significant street in the United States has been named after the former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson, Khaleda Zia. "Carpenter Street," located in the heart of Hamtramck, a city in the northeastern state of Michigan, will henceforth be known by Khaleda Zia’s name.

On Thursday, January 8, the BNP Media Cell confirmed this information. Expatriate Bangladeshis view this decision by the city authorities as international recognition of Bangladesh's history, leadership, and democratic movements.

The proposal to rename the section of the city between Joseph Campau Street and Conant Street was recently approved unanimously at a Hamtramck City Council meeting. According to the expatriate community, this is not just the naming of a road; it is a tribute to the history of Bangladesh's political struggle and the establishment of democracy.

Expatriate leaders state that Khaleda Zia is a symbol of unique and powerful leadership in Bangladeshi politics. Naming an important road after her in the United States will make Bangladesh's political history more visible on the global stage. Simultaneously, it reflects the social and political influence of Bangladeshis living abroad.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time a street in the U.S. has been named after a Bangladeshi leader. Previously, a street in Chicago was named after the martyred President Ziaur Rahman.

Concerned individuals believe that naming a street after Khaleda Zia in Hamtramck—a city known for its multicultural population—will further strengthen the social and cultural ties between the people of Bangladesh and the United States.
