NCP March Toward Indian Embassy, Blocked by Police
Leaders and activists of the National Citizen Party (NCP) were stopped by police while marching toward the Indian Embassy in Dhaka.
The Dhaka North unit of the NCP organized an anti-hegemony march toward the Indian Embassy, marking 15 years since the killing of Felani Khatun at the border.
On Wednesday (January 7) at around 4:20 pm, nearly 100 NCP activists reached the road in front of the Indian Embassy at Banshtola. When the procession arrived there, police set up barricades and blocked their advance.
Eyewitnesses said that after being stopped, the protesters continued chanting slogans. These included: “Delhi or Dhaka? Dhaka, Dhaka,” “No slavery, only freedom,” “Stop Indian aggression,” “Felani on the barbed wire, we have not forgotten you,” “One, two, three, four—India no more,”
and “India, beware.”
The protesters demanded an end to border killings and justice for Felani Khatun. Police later deployed additional forces in the area to maintain law and order. No untoward incident was reported at the time of filing this report.
