BNP to Take Organizational Action Against Rebel Candidates
Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of the BNP Standing Committee, has announced that the party is taking organizational measures regarding disappointed nomination seekers and rebel candidates ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election. He shared this information with journalists on Thursday morning, January 8, in front of the party's political office in Gulshan, Dhaka.
Salahuddin explained that while many candidates aspire for nominations in a large political party like the BNP, it is not possible to accommodate everyone. "To ensure multi-party representation in parliament for the greater interest, many of our qualified candidates may have been deprived. Therefore, organizational actions have been taken in some cases, while others are being reasoned with," he stated.
Addressing concerns about Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman's tour of the northern regions, Salahuddin clarified that it is not being linked to any violation of the electoral code of conduct. He noted that paying respects to martyrs and visiting graves is part of the nation's expectations. "Tarique Rahman's visit is crucial to upholding the spirit of the martyrs of the mass uprising and fulfilling national expectations," he added.
Assuring a swift organizational resolution, he said that efforts would continue to maintain smooth relations with nomination seekers and rebel candidates. He emphasized that the party intends to move forward with the election while maintaining strict internal discipline.
