After an eight-year gap, a shipment of corn from the United States has arrived in Bangladesh. For the first time since 2018, nearly 58,000 metric tons of U.S. corn have been imported, reaching Chittagong Port.

The cargo was transported aboard the mother vessel ‘MV Beltokio’, which departed from the Port of Vancouver in the state of Washington, USA, and entered Bangladesh’s territorial waters on December 31. The formal unloading process at Chittagong Port began on Wednesday.

The U.S. Embassy in Dhaka confirmed this information in a press release on Wednesday. To welcome the shipment, Erin Covert, the U.S. Embassy’s agricultural representative in Bangladesh, visited Confidence Cement Jetty at Chittagong Port and held discussions with representatives of the importing and supplying companies.

The shipment consists of corn produced in the U.S. states of North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota. Three leading poultry feed companies in Bangladesh—Nahar Agro Group, Paragon Group, and Narish Poultry and Hatchery Limited—jointly imported this consignment.

Under this import, Narish Group will collect 29,000 tons, Paragon Group 19,000 tons, and Nahar Agro Group 10,000 tons of corn. The cargo will be unloaded through the ports of Chittagong, Narayanganj, and Noapara.

According to the U.S. Embassy, after a long hiatus, this supply once again establishes U.S. high-quality corn as a reliable source for animal nutrition in Bangladesh’s livestock feed industry.
